Xbox One X’s True Potential Won’t Be Held Back By Xbox One – Voofoo Studios
The Xbox One X is a powerful enough machine, albeit one that we haven’t had the chance to see unrestrained- this is for multiple reasons. The biggest problem is that Microsoft makes minimal exclusive titles any more (and those that it does are shared with PC anyway), while another reason is that it has mandated that all games must also run on a standard Xbox One alongside Xbox One X- which means even third party games are, in theory, held back.
It’s that second factor more than anything else that leads to many wondering whether Xbox One X’s true potential will ever be on display. And according to Sean Walsh, Marketing & PR Manager, Mark Williams, Technical Director, and Ben Exell, 3D Artist, all from Voofoo Studios- no, this should not be a problem.
“I don’t believe so. Developers tend to build game technology that can scale well these days – it’s essential when you want to be supporting not only all the consoles, but also the largest possible range of PC hardware, and even mobile devices,” they said. “We’re very used to building games for PC that can work well on old hardware, while at the same time allowing all the bells and whistles to be enabled to take advantage of the very latest hardware. Building games that support both XB1 and XB1 X is just an extension of that.”
On one hand, they are correct. On the other, while they are correct, the true potential of a machine is never tapped unless a game is specifically built around its unique hardware- which as of right now, it seems like never will be the case with the Xbox One X. I suppose that, as long as in the end Xbox players get good looking games out of the bargain, they won’t really mind.
