Gears of War Developers Helped With The Xbox Port of PUBG
PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds is coming to the Xbox One- exclusively, for now- in what will be a great coup for Microsoft, who have found their exclusives situation increasingly dire over the last few months. And it looks like Microsoft realizes how significant a get this game is for them, because they apparently have gone out of their way to bring the game over to Xbox, too.
For instance, not only have they shared development assistance and proprietary tech with the PUBG team, but apparently, one of their premier studios, The Coalition, the folks behind Gears of War, also helped bring the game to the Xbox One.
“PUBG is really getting the boutique, first-party, white-glove treatment from Microsoft,” Microsoft’s Nico Bihary said to Polygon, also confirming that The Coalition had assisted with the port.
“By virtue of being publisher there’s some traditional housekeeping that we do,” Bihary said. “Where we are going well beyond that traditional second-party publishing relationship is by offering services like our first-party quality assurance team, offering services like our advanced technical group and enlisting folks like The Coalition to help with the aiming and tuning of controller systems.”
He didn’t go into what help The Coalition gave PUBG Corp- but just knowing that a team as intimately familiar with the Xbox hardware as The Coalition worked on the Xbox port of PUBG should put to rest any doubts players might have had about how the game might end up running on Microsoft’s console when it finally releases next week on 12/12.
