E3 2018: The Division 2’s Release Date Confirmed For PS4, PC, And Xbox One
Ubisoft finally unveiled the first solid details about The Division 2 during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. Along with sharing the game’s first trailer and gameplay footage, Ubisoft revealed a few details about the upcoming shooter, including its release date: March 15, 2019.
Unlike the previous title, which was set in Manhattan, The Division 2 takes place in Washington, DC, seven months after the deadly virus was released in New York City. Players assume the role of “veteran Division agents” who must battle against enemy factions and reclaim the capital. You can take a look at a few screenshots of the game below.
Ubisoft first announced a sequel to The Division was in the works during a livestream back in March. Until now, however, the publisher shared very few details about the project, only confirming that it is being developed by the same primary studios that worked on the first entry, including Massive Entertainment, Red Storm, and Ubisoft Reflections. Ubisoft also teased that players will be able to transfer some progress from the first game over to the sequel.
Like its predecessor, The Division 2 is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We’ll presumably get another look at the title during Ubisoft’s own E3 press conference. That is scheduled to take place tomorrow, June 11, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET.
The original Division debuted back in 2016 and was generally very well received by fans and critics. It earned an 8/10 in GameSpot’s Division review; critic Scott Butterworth wrote, “[N]o matter how frustrated I grew with the game’s semi-indestructible enemies or its repetitive leveling structure, I absolutely could not stop playing. The world was too engrossing, the loot was too enticing, and the campaign was too gripping for me to simply walk away.”
