Battlefield V Naming Explained: Winston Churchill’s “V For Victory”

Battlefield 5

Before its eventual reveal, Battlefield 5 was rumoured and officially teased as Battlefield V. While it’s referred to as “five”, the letter “V” is actually very deliberate and not just a Roman numeral.

The game’s official Twitter stated that V was for Victory, a sign that UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill popularized during World War 2. It eventually became a symbol for the Allied forces. Which sounds noble and all but it actually makes us wonder whether Churchill – and Dunkirk, one of the more famous conflicts between the British and German forces – will be included in-game.

Battlefield 5 is out on October 19th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. It features numerous changes to its core multiplayer components, from the lack of auto health regeneration to all classes being able to revive. Players can also build fortifications now, combating real-time destruction, and customize their characters to a deeper degree. DICE has promised no loot boxes but we’ll have to wait for official information on the use of premium currency.
